City of Elgin’s Fourth of July Parade

In conjunction with the Gail Borden Library’s Dinosaur Giants: an Exhibit from the Sereno Fossil Lab, this year’s parade theme is “Prehistoric Creatures.” Participants are encouraged to decorate floats or wear costumes resembling prehistoric dinosaurs, birds and reptiles.

The parade, held on Tuesday, July 4, kicks off with the National Anthem at 9 a.m. followed by a “Pooch Parade” from the Slade and Douglas intersection. The route continues south on Douglas Avenue through the heart of downtown to Highland Avenue. The parade route will be closed for parking starting at 6 a.m.

This year’s parade marshal is the Elgin Fire Department, celebrating 150 years of service. The Elgin Fire Department is dedicated to providing a safe community through prevention and mitigation of emergencies in a professional and caring manner.

If you are looking to volunteer, we still have block captain positions available. Volunteers need to arrive at the Elgin Police Department at 6am. If you are interested please contact Jessica Lamb at
