The Nightmare on Chicago Street Continues!

For the past 11 years, the city of Elgin’s streets have been crawling with zombies… we need to unite and stop them together on October 19, 2024! The night of the dead is coming up soon! Not only has the footprint for the event gotten larger, but there is a whole new zone about the Aztec underworld!

Prepare for an evening of pulse-pounding excitement with electrifying performances, immersive environments, apocalyptic-themed drinks, delectable food options, and a soundtrack that will keep your heart racing.

Citizens will once again unite in the Safe Zone. While some parts of the city may appear abandoned and overrun with chaos—boarded-up businesses, reclaimed vegetation, scattered trash, and remnants of a post-apocalyptic world—fear not! Your safety remains our top priority. Essential businesses will be open, providing food, beverages, shelter, and essential supplies. Organized by the Zombie Defense Initiative, planners promise a thrilling experience. From jaw-dropping live entertainment and musical acts to a variety of food vendors, live graffiti art, countless photo opportunities, close encounters with zombies, an exciting costume contest, and special guests like MeTV’s SVENGOOLIE, there will be surprises waiting for you at every turn.

You can purchase your tickets for Nightmare on Chicago Street on their website or you could purchase them at the gate. Downtown Elgin restaurants and bars will be open and available to the public. Spooky vendors and entertainers will be a part of the fun.

There will be staged full of live music, a DJ stage, heart-pounding excitement in the Thunder Dome, a Bizarre Bazar, end-of-times drinks and food creations, B-movie Boulevard, and the best costumes this side of Halloween.

The event is for people aged 17 and older, however, anyone under the age of 17 that would like to take part in the apocalypse, may join the defense if accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. Costumes are encouraged but not mandatory to participate.

Check out all the spooky entertainment for Nightmare by attending one of the following downtown businesses on Friday night!

The following streets will be closed to motor vehicles beginning at 8 a.m. on Friday, October 18 and to pedestrians starting at 8 a.m., Saturday, October 19.
– Chicago Street (from Riverside Drive to Villa Street)
– Douglas Avenue (from Highland Avenue to Prairie Street)
– Division Street (from Center Street to Spring Street)
– Grove Avenue (from Highland Avenue to Prairie Street) *The portion between Highland and Chicago will be closed beginning on Thursday, October 17.
– Spring Street (from Highland Avenue to Fulton Street)
– DuPage Street (from Villa Street to Spring Street)
– Highland Avenue (from Villa Street to Riverside Drive)
– Fulton Street (from Villa Street to Spring Street)

– The alley from Chicago Street to Highland Avenue

Parking is available in designated areas and on public streets. On Saturday, between 4:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m., shuttle services will be provided from and to Elgin High School, 1200 Maroon Drive, and Larkin High School, 1475 Larkin Avenue. Rideshares may use the post office roundabout during this time. The roads are expected to reopen on Sunday evening, October 20.
