Winter in the Elgin area can be magical, especially when you know where to find the best spots for classic winter activities like sledding and ice skating. Whether you’re a thrill-seeking sledder or a graceful skater, there’s something for everyone in and around Elgin, including West Dundee, Carpentersville, and South Elgin. So, grab your hats, gloves, and scarves, and let’s explore some of the top spots to embrace the chill:

 

Sledding/Snow Tubing Hotspots

❄️ Villa Olivia, Bartlett

  • Ride the popular snow tubing slopes. Participants must be at least 6 years old and 42 inches tall to ride alone. Ages 4 and 5 may ride share with a paying adult 18 and over. Guests are able to make snow tubing reservations here.

❄️ Apple Orchard Community Park, Bartlett

  • The Bartlett Park District has a designated hill at Apple Orchard Community Park for sledding.

❄️ Wing Park, Elgin

  • This 121-acre regional park is a destination for families in the winter with its fun sledding hill.

❄️ Randall Oaks Park, West Dundee

  • Randall Oaks Park is a local favorite for sledding in the winter. Open sunrise to sunset.

 

Ice Skating

❄️ Canlan Sports West Dundee

  • Canlan is a state-of-the-art ice facility located 5 minutes off of I-90. With 3 NHL size rinks, an off-ice training center and a studio rink that can be used for private lessons, goalie training or small birthday parties. The Canlan Ice Center is considered a one of kind ice facility.

❄️ Polar Dome, East Dundee

  • Located in Santa’s Village Amusement & Water Park, the Polar Dome indoor ice-skating rink features public skating, recreational hockey, and skating lessons. No skates? No problem. The Polar Dome has rental skates available. Click here to book your skate time. In addition to the rink, the Alpine Room, a lounge and bar featuring a full-service kitchen and gaming options, offers a place for guests to relax after their time on the ice.
