Salary: $58,000.00 – $65,000.00 per year
Position: NOT REMOTE, Local Work, 60 S. Grove Avenue, Elgin

 

Position Summary

The Marketing & Community Outreach Manager is responsible for all marketing and community outreach goals set for staff in the Strategic Plan and annual Marketing & Communications Plan. This leadership position will require someone who excels at bringing community partners together to promote a destination further and position the organization as a leader in telling the region’s story. The role will include proactive and reactive work, utilizing key skills in partnership working, consultation and engagement, networking, project management, and capacity building – supporting local organizations and residents to identify issues, needs, and solutions to improve their community.

 

Main Priorities 

 

  • Design, review, and execute the Marketing team’s budget, while strategically applying for grants to grow the marketing budget
  • Create current and long-term goals to brand the destination and the organization, including the upcoming 40th Anniversary
  • Represent the organization at community and industry events, during and after work hours 
  • Serve as key liaison and develop stronger relationships with organizations that have similar community destination promotion goals as the EACVB

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

 

Supervised by the President/CEO for daily logistics and operations tasks for the Elgin Area Convention & Visitors Bureau: 

  • Develop, execute and track all marketing and communications efforts of the Elgin Area Convention & Visitors Bureau
  • Responsible for working directly with marketing staff to successfully tell the story of the organization through articles, blogs, social media posts, printed ads and any other mediums
  • Draft all branded publications and programs, including but not limited to the Annual Marketing & Communications Plan, Annual Review, Quarterly Reports, Visitors Guide, Visitor Tri-Folds and others as required
  • Maintains ExploreElginArea.com with regular updates to business and event listings and creation of new content to increase traffic to the website with the support of the Marketing Coordinator
  • Build relationships with media and stakeholders through creative PR strategies, including attending trade shows and hosting FAM trips
  • Responsible for coming up with a content plan and then executing all efforts on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Google and any other social media platforms that make sense
  • Work with the Marketing & Community Outreach Coordinator to create and develop the Welcome Center into a destination
  • Attendance of outside events and promotions as warranted
  • Works directly with area businesses to create a sense of community-shared value for the whole hospitality industry
  • Maintain a working knowledge of current destinations and events located in the Elgin Area and serve as a liaison between the Elgin Area tourism industry and its visitors/customers
  • Develop and nurture positive relationships and partnerships on behalf of the Elgin Area Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Elgin Area destination with industry partners, residents, information sources, peer organizations, clients, and visitors
  • Create a plan to produce visitor and resident experiences to create community pride
  • Maintains an active presence in the Elgin Area, serving on at least one local board and additional committees to support the region
  • And all other duties required to market and promote the destination successfully or as asked by the President/CEO and board of directors

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the Elgin area required
  • Three years of experience working in a related capacity (the travel & tourism industry is desired)
  • Bilingual writing and verbal communication is desired
  • Background in marketing, advertising or communications preferred
  • Must have experience with design software such as Canva, Photoshop, or similar product
  • Knowledge of how to operate a website on WordPress
  • Experience working with outside vendors is a big plus
  • Experience leading a team is preferred
  • Ability to give detailed presentations to the board of directors, city councils, and other boards
  • Strong computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office, CRM software programs, media tracking programs, and email marketing platforms 
  • Must have strong writing and editing skills
  • The ability to multitask is a must since this is a small office
  • Good analysis, tracking, and reporting abilities
  • Superb verbal and written communication skills required
  • Some weekend and evening hours are required
  • Positive, upbeat attitude and team player
  • Valid Driver’s license 
  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds
