Dundee Library Exhibition – Violence Against Women

November 21 @ 9:00 am - 9:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every day that begins at 9:00 am, repeating until September 9, 2024

The Fox River Valley Public Library District is hosting a traveling exhibition entitled Confronting Violence: Improving Women’s Lives/Enfrentando la violencia, mejorando la vida de las mujeres. The bilingual, 5-banner exhibition from the National Library of Medicine will be on display at the Dundee Library from July 31 through September 9. The library is located at 555 Barrington Ave. in East Dundee.

The traveling exhibition tells the story of nurses working to reform a medical profession that failed to acknowledge domestic violence as a health issue and not a legal matter. Beginning in the late 1970s, these nurses were in the vanguard as they pushed the larger medical community to identify victims, adequately respond to their needs, and work towards the prevention of domestic violence. For more information about the exhibition and those who led the movement, visit www.nlm.nih.gov/exhibition/confrontingviolence.

The Dundee Library is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. For more information about the library, visit www.frvpld.info or call (847) 428-3661. The Fox River Valley Public Library District serves 70,000 residents of Carpentersville, East Dundee, West Dundee, Sleepy Hollow, Gilberts, and parts of Algonquin.
