The U-46 Planetarium is primarily a classroom students visit throughout the school year for a standards-aligned, grade-level lesson on science and astronomy. Throughout the year, however, the planetarium is open to the general public for occasional Public Sky Shows. These public sky shows last about an hour and include time observing the current night sky under the dome and a brief history of the building. A specific astronomical topic or theme is also explored through lectures, imagery and/or a full dome video presentation.

The doors open at 4 p.m. The first show is at 4:30 p.m. with the second show starting at 6:30 p.m. Seating is first come, first served. There are no reservations.
