Elgin Symphony Orchestra to Host Masterclass with Principal Timpanist Bobby Everson
The Elgin Symphony Orchestra (ESO) will host their final masterclass of the 2018-2019 season with principal timpanist Bobby Everson at the Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove, Elgin on Saturday, May 18th from 2pm-4pm in the Meadows Community Room. This masterclass is free to all students, teachers, and anyone interested in learning more about the timpani. Mr. Everson will focus solely on the timpani and three percussion students have been chosen for a “mini lesson” during the masterclass.
In a masterclass, students are selected to perform for an expert who will then work with them on performance technique, musicality and presentation. This form of teaching is invaluable for students because it gives them a master’s perspective on performance, enhancing their current music study.
Mr. Everson earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Percussion Performance from DePaul University, and is the percussion instructor at Concordia University Chicago in River Forest, IL as well as at the Birch Creek Music Performance Camp in Door County, WI. In addition to performing with various symphonies in the Chicago area, he performs solo in-school percussion demonstrations for the International Music Foundation of Chicago, and participates in the educational outreach SEED Program with the Chicago Sinfonietta. He is a life-long resident of the Chicago area with his wife Ellen and their son Ian, an aspiring singer and music producer.
The ESO is unmatched for quality music and a fun, relaxing, cultural experience located close to home in the western suburbs. From start to finish – the ESO brings world class, big city entertainment without the hassles. The ESO-Transforming the Symphony Experience.
