Hometown Heroes: Food for Greater Elgin

Hometown Heroes: Food for Greater Elgin

Pictured are volunteers Debbie and Karen who have been volunteering since the opening in 2011!

Food for Greater Elgin has been full of Hometown Heroes since their opening in 2011. For 9 years they have been providing food for people in need. As we continue to navigate these strange times, Food for Greater Elgin knew they were going to need to provide for our community now more than ever. Not only has their dedication remained strong, it’s grown! Volunteers continue to show up to give their ongoing support for the organization as well as the community as a whole.

Not only that, but their long standing commitment to their mission has rallied the community to donate to their cause. Because of the community efforts, they’ve been able to meet the growing demand. In February 2020, they fed 1856 families, some several times. The next month in March, they fed 2019. With over 20 million Americans who have filed for unemployment in the last 4 weeks, many people are turning to organizations like Food for Greater Elgin for the first time. We need organizations like this now more than ever. Seeing the numbers can be very upsetting especially for those who have been deeply affected by this crisis. Food for Greater Elgin provides for our community and continues to be a beacon of hope. They remind us that our community will be there to catch us in times of uncertainty.

Because of Food for Greater Elgin’s ability to unite our community, provide food, and hope, they have proven why they are Hometown Heroes, and why they always have been.

Thank you Food for Greater Elgin, for Providing Food, Unity and Hope in our Community.

You are Hometown Heroes!
