Kerina’s Day in the Elgin Area

Kerina’s Day in the Elgin Area
January 13, 2023 Elgin Area CVB

For this week’s installment of “what would we do here,” we are going to follow Kerina, our Communications and Experience Manager here at Explore Elgin Area CVB. While she is not an Elgin native, she loves to explore the communities and the excitement around the area.

Morning

For my mornings in the Elgin Area, I have to stop by Lark and Owl in Elgin for The Lark skillet. While their skillets are amazing, they also have eggs, french toast, crepes, sandwiches, omelets, waffles, and more to offer! The service staff has always been very kind and helpful in pointing out the gluten-safe meal options for me, so they are certainly on my morning agenda!

After breakfast, I head on over to the Gail Borden Library right down the road to see what new book options they have and to see if they have any neat exhibits to check out! Even though I am not from Elgin, my library card from a different community was able to be transferred and I am able to check out all the books I desire!

I also like to go to Elgin Antiques and Uniques to find cute little treasures for myself, my co-workers, or my friends! So far I have found cute little birds made with real fur and a few swords that I just had to pick up! If animals are more your speed, check out Zooxae also in Elgin for a fish store like no other!

Afternoon

When I am done with my relaxing morning full of reading and antiquing, I head on over to one of my favorite restaurants in the Elgin Area- Emmett’s Brewing Co. in West Dundee! Since I am gluten-free, having a whole gluten-free menu is a must-have for me when I dine out. Emmett does not only have entrees, but they also have starters, soups, salads, sandwiches, a dessert, and burgers to choose from! My go-to order there has to be a Classic Reuben or a Tavern Taco!

Once lunch is complete, I head on over to East Dundee to go axe throwing at Spartan Axe Throwing! Here I can spend some time hitting targets and having fun! When my friends are able to come with me, they also tend to join in on the fun!

If that is too much to do for the day, I also tend to go to Escapade 360 back in Elgin! They have tons of different puzzles to work through and it is a fantastic way to work as a team!

Evening

As the sun starts to set, I head on over to Platt Hill Nursery in Carpentersville to look at some of their beautiful plants (and perhaps even purchase some)! They have a wide variety of decor, plant care items, plants, and even some little nursery cats to keep you company while you shop!

After a busy day of seeing sights and having adventures- I start the evening off with a Westside Loaded Nachos from Bamboozels. Once again, a restaurant with a menu with items marked gluten-free is always incredible to have around! After finishing the appetizer off with a few friends, I get a build-your-own burger with a gluten-free bun!

To wind down from the day, I always make a point to stop on at any of the local snacking shops that are open to see what fun treats they have! See our bakeries and treats here.
