Live music comes in many forms and in the Elgin Area, you have your choice of style. Looking for a old fashion rock concert? Then you’ll love RocHaus! Or maybe you wish to see symphonic music played live. In that case, taking in a Elgin Symphony Orchestra performance will be on the top of your list. For a more casual experience or to listen while enjoying food and drink Old Republic, Danny’s on Douglas and Plank Road Tap Room are great spots, especially when the weather is warm and performances are held outdoors.


Explore the Trails

Exploring the Fox River Trails is a local favorite activity and the warmer weather makes it pop. Our museums are affordable and many times interactive making them enjoyable for the whole family. The Elgin History Museum, Elgin Public Museum and the Hawthorne Hill Nature Center are very kid-friendly and feature additional programming during the Spring and Summer months. Places like the Elgin Fire Barn No. 5 and the Fox River Trolley Museum take a deep dive into their subject matter and have lot of automotive pieces on display and in operation!

Disc Golf is a new sport that has taken the community by storm. There are two courses in the Elgin Area; one in Randall Oaks Park in West Dundee and one in the Rolling Knolls Forest Preserve in Elgin. Learn more about each course below!

Randall Oaks Zoo in West Dundee is a complete barnyard zoo with educational displays and special events that happen throughout the year. Visit mini cows, a bobcat, macaws and more! The other zoo resides in Elgin’s Lord’s Park. A historic park with playgrounds, walking paths a historic pavilion and Lord’s Park Zoo. This zoo is home to larger animals like elk, deer and bison.

Architecture and history buffs adore the Elgin Area for its sights and information about the local history. Architecture lovers have to visit BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Bartlett. The striking structures you will find are truly breath taking. Constructed from hand-carved, imported Italian marble and Turkish limestone you really have to see it in person to catch all the details. Fans of local architecture will love the self guided Historic Home Tour and Downtown Historic Commercial District that will take you around Elgin’s popular historic districts. There are so many libraries in the Elgin Area to explore, including Gail Borden Public Library in Elgin which is the third largest library in Illinois! There’s also the Fox River Valley Library with 2 branches in the Dundee area and the Ella Johnson Library in Hampshire.
