Mapping Our Stories: Elgin Community Workshop and Luncheon
August 19 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Join the Elgin History Museum, Going Dutch, and Side Street Studio Arts for a very special event: Mapping our Stories – Elgin Luncheon.
Elginites from all neighborhoods and those with Elgin stories to tell are invited.
At this luncheon and community gathering participants will engage in storytelling, conversation, and map rendering. Maps of Elgin will serve as a catalyst for discourse and activities centered around change, memories, and identifying landmarks in our town which hold meaning. Going Dutch artists around the United States will consider art and its relationship to cartography- both in the artistry of mapmaking and the ways maps shape our own creative and thought processes. We will consider how maps have changed over time, and how we see those changes reflected in ourselves and our community.
Artist facilitators include Christine Hands, Meg Jordan, Kelly Ann Cunningham, ShawnT, Beizar Aradini, Nick Cartwright, and Martha Lazarski.
The efforts of this event will be on display at the Elgin History Museum and part of a Going Dutch performance at Side Street Studio Arts Saturday, August 24 at 7pm.
Going Dutch is a celebration of female and nonbinary voices in the arts.
